ELSWICK IN BLOOM

As part of the North West in Bloom competition, Elswick runs its own Elswick in Bloom scheme. In 2006 and 2007 we received recognition for the village's efforts by being judged third in the large village class. We were was only pipped by Wrea Green and Woolton in Liverpool.

This year (2008) we realised that we had previously been entered in the wrong category and as a result have gone one better by being judged joint runner up (second) with St Michaels in the village category. The winning village was Chipping.

The competition encompasses not just Lancashire but the whole of the North West including Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. For Elswick to be judged in the top three out of many hundreds of villages in this area is a major achievement.

The aim of the scheme is to improve the quality of the environment and thus make Elswick an even better place to live and work.
